What are the different types of offences?

Summary Offence: Anyone convicted of an offence punishable on summary conviction may receive a fine of $5,000, six months in prison or both.

Indictable Offence: Indictable offences are serious offences, which can carry severe penalties upon conviction.

Hybrid Offence: In the case of a hybrid offence, the Crown may choose to proceed summarily or by indictment. If the Crown has not yet made an election, the offence is deemed to be indictable, until further notice.
